| Spaniel Training Day. Sunday
April 12th 2009. By kind permission of Mr Alexander Fitzalan Howard and Mrs A Massey. Words and photos Guy. ![]() One Day!
Our scheduled Spaniel Match with The Three Shires had to be cancelled
as they
were unable to put a team together in time and as the ground we were going to use
was a new venue for Dove Valley, we didn't want to tell the
landowners we weren't going to use it. Whilst we were contemplating
what to do instead, our scheduled Match Judges, Chris Wadsworth and Roy
Ellershaw offered to run a training day for us.
What a great idea. Match organiser, Ian Sowter, accepted in a hearbeat and immediately offered 8 places to the already entered Dove Valley Team. Chris said they could cope with around 20 dogs and members eager to take advantage of the chance rang Ian and soon filled the vacancies as word of the day spread. A young mixed woodland plantation provided the ideal ground for training and our trainers divided the handlers into two groups with Chris looking at getting dogs to "Go Back" effictively and close control, while Roy concentrated on hunting. Lots of time was available for questions and Chris and Roy, both "B" panel Judges, were only too pleased to pass on their knowledge. This was a great day and we are extremely grateful to our Hosts and to Chris and Roy for giving up their day for us. ![]() ![]() Trainers, Roy and Chris were generous with their knowledge. ![]() David Moore's young Springer, Cressett Ellie of Hepthorne. ![]() A good day was had by all.
