This was to be our last trial at Norbury as a change of ownership has brought shooting to an end on this prestigous estate.
This,
together with the fact that it was Remembrance Day, gave us a sad start
but that soon changed as the first shots were fired and we all
remembered why we were there. Walking-up in wet rape, stubble turnips
and beet provided a slower supply of game than we have become used to
at Norbury, but accurate shooting from 5 guns in the morning and 6
after lunch put the birds on the deck and allowed our judges to
thoroughly test all the dogs. Scent did not seem good with some dogs, despite marking
accurately, struggling to find dead birds. There were few runners
to give any one dog chance to shine and work of differing standards
reduced the field to 4 by lunch time. It was Girl Power now as the
final four were all ladies and a last walk-up before a drive to end the
trial, produced a few more birds.
