48 dogs for a Spaniel Test? You have got to be joking!

Yes. That's right! 48 dogs entered this Test at Chatsworth (46 ran on the day) and what a day it was.
Spaniel Test Secretary, Jean Gledhill, was a little nervous and concerned as to how we would be able to cope with so
many dogs, but after a quick word with our Senior Judge, Jonathan Bailey, it was decided to use eliminating faults to
reduce the field. This decision was announced before the Test started and everyone agreed it was the best solution.
31 Novice and 15 Open dogs gave our Judges lots to do, and the Dove Valley Team of Stewards worked hard to ensure
all the handlers were given every chance.
The Working Gundog Certificate running alondside the Novice Test proved
popular with 14 handlers taking part, 8 of whom were successful.

Results.

After a very close fought contest, and a run off for First Place, a delighted Stuart Swann (above) handling his Springer,
Little Tyson, was declared the winner with Paul Dyson runner-up.
Stuart was presented with the Wardgate Trophy and The Dove Valley Shield.
The Top Three Handlers in the Novice and Open all received an engraved chrystal goblet,
kindly presented by
Clare and Ian Harford of Countryman Fairs.

Open Test Winner, Mr K Dimiler, winning the Crichflight Shield.
